WSM’s Board of Directors provides direction to management and accountability to ownership for the performance of the organization, and board membership represents the most committed level of leadership for a Weaver Street Market owner. Becoming a director involves not only attending the monthly meetings but also undertaking a regular share of board committee and policy development work as well as keeping current with developments in cooperative governance.
Each year two of the elected Board positions are open for owner elections, and one of the appointed positions is open for appointment. Consumer-owners elect a Board member from the consumer-owner candidates, and worker-owners elect a Board member from the worker-owner candidates.
WSM’s Elections Committee (EC) oversees the process for electing Board directors. The EC is a standing a standing committee approved by the Board that comprises five to seven consumer owners and worker owners. The elections are conducted according to the Elections Procedure Manual, which the EC submits each year to the Board for approval. Click here to view the 2017 Elections Procedures Manual.
The Elections Procedures Manual includes guidelines for candidacy and for running the elections, procedures for counting votes, as well as the Elections Timeline and Call for Candidates.
