Wineries on the tour this Year!
Horizon Cellars and Benjamin Vineyard & Winery join the Piedmont Farm Tour for the first time this year. These vineyards represent a growing trend in North Carolina as old tobacco fields are turned over to grapes for wine. Horizon Cellars is a family-owned and operated winery built into a small ridge amongst the rolling hills of Chatham County. Horizon Cellars owners, Guy and Nicole Loeffler, have been making wines sourcing fruit from Virginia until their own freshly planted vineyards are ready for harvest. According to Guy, they will use grapes grown on their own property for the first time in 2006.

Piedmont Farm Tour Soon! continued
The Loeflers believe in sustainability in the vineyards and use the minimal amount of chemicals needed to keep their vines healthy. Because of this belief they have been one of the newer additions to the Piedmont Farm Tour this year.

Located just over the county line in Alamance County, the Benjamin Vineyard and Winery is only four years old, but they've already got a very nice line up of wines. The Zemanns started making wine in their garage in Indiana before moving to this area where the climate and soil are good for growing grapes. Their winery is a hands-on operation, producing around 1000 cases this year and probably topping out at 3000 in the next two years.

It's wonderful to know that North Carolina is producing such fine wines. Buying them for yourself or as a gift for family and friends is a great way to introduce people to the diversity of our local agriculture and to support our local economy. When you take the tour this year, don't miss visiting a vineyard and winery, right here in your own back yard!

The 11th Annual Piedmont Farm Tour is Apri 22 & 23. Advance sale buttons for $25 for all 31 Farms available at Weaver Street Market. Farm Tour Kick-Off, Thursday, April 20, 6-8 pm, featuring live music, grilled food by the CFSA—meet the farmers!

Meet Keith Rogers, WSM Pastry Manager
Weaver Street Market is happy to introduce to you, Keith Rogers, our new Pastry Manager. Keith comes to us from Florida where he was working at a Five Star Hotel in restaurant management. Florida's last hurricane season pushed Keith to look to relocate here. For four years he was a cook on a Navy submarine, so, although we might think our pastry bakery is small, Keith finds plenty of room to work.

Keith will continue to ensure that our shelves stay stocked with high quality all-natural pastry goodies. Look for new additions like mango and passion fruit mousse to bring a little of that Florida sunshine to our line up.

11th Annual Piedmont Farm Tour
Celebrate Earth Day by touring area small farms
April 22 & 23
31 Farms $30, $25 in advance
7 new farms!

Spring brings the opportunity to visit local farms on the 11th annual Piedmont Farm Tour.

Discover once again the importance of farmland to the health and life of our community. Organized as a fundraiser for the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA), the Piedmont Farm Tour will draw thousands of visitors to the farms. The CFSA is a membership-based organization of more than 750 farmers, processors, gardeners, businesses, and individuals in North and South Carolina who are committed to sustainable agriculture and organic farming. Last year alone, the tour raised over $14,000 with over 6,000 visitors to the farms. Weaver Street Market and CFSA partnered 11 years ago to bring the Piedmont Farm Tour to the community so that folks could connect with where their food comes from, and as an expression of their commitment to local, sustainable agriculture.

To take the tour, load up your car with family and friends, buy your ticket (a button), and plot a course on the map provided. The map indicates where there are bathroom stops, who's selling what, and what will interest children. The tour dates are Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23 from 1 to 5 pm. The cost is $30 per car for all 31 farms, or $10 per car per farm on the days of the tour. You can pick up a map and purchase your button for all farms in advance for $25 at the following locations: Weaver Street Market in Carrboro; Weaver Street Market at Southern Village and Niche Gardens in Chapel Hill; the General Store Café, Fearrington Farmers' Market, and Chatham Marketplace in Pittsboro; Durham Co-op Grocery and the Seeds booth at the Durham Farmers' Market; Maple View Ice Cream Store in Hillsborough; Harmony Farms and Triangle Nutrition in Raleigh; Deep Roots Market in Greensboro; Benjamin Vineyards & Winery in Graham; and Horizon Cellars in Siler City. All proceeds benefit the CFSA. The farmers request that you do not visit the farms outside the posted hours. The Piedmont Farm Tour is co-sponsored by the CFSA, and Weaver Street Market.

Get a jump on the fun at the Farm Tour Kick-Off, Thursday, April 20, 6-8 pm, live music by Kickin Grass; grilled food by CFSA; meet the farmers!
