As part of our month long Celebration of Local Food and Wine, Weaver Street Market is highlighting our local coffee companies. First up is Cup A Joe - Roasting Coffee Locally Since 1991, Cup A Joe was roasting coffee before all the fuss about coffee - you may be familiar with their cafes in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough. We are now excited to offer you the convenience of buying their coffee while you do your grocery shopping at Weaver Street Market! (Look for Cup A Joe coffee in the bulk bins mid-August.) From many a chat across the bar with customers, they know people can taste the difference in flavor, complexity, and freshness. And that's the art of roasting. All their trials and errors have given them an understanding of the coffees they roast, how they age, and how to adapt to changes from year to year. More

Cup A Joe continued
With their experience and expertise, they are able to refine their roast profiles day to day. As the coffee changes from month to month and crop to crop, they change with it, tweaking their roasts so that all the work by the farmers and specialty coffee tasters isn't wasted at the moment of truth, the roasting process.

Before the days of "fair trade, shade grown, organic, bird friendly, rain forest" coffees, Cup A Joe was trying to identify the world's best growing regions, the most consistently processed coffees and the most unique flavors in the coffee universe. As a drinker of their coffee, you will have all of the best choices available, which will always include Sustainable, Fair Trade, and Organic. And because they've been doing this for such a long time, they also offer several coffees that are not available anywhere else in the country!

Give them a taste. Your coffee buds will thank you!

Weaver Street Market loves to see people enjoying our lawn and connecting with their community. We want the children who attend our event to have a safe and happy time too, so we ask that they not be allowed to climb the trees, including the Crepe Myrtles. Lastly, please enjoy the fountain from its perimeter. Thank you for your help in making this event safe and fun for everyone.

After Hours & the ALE Regulations

We know how much fun it is to sit on the lawn and drink some beers, but unfortunately North Carolina law forbids Weaver Street Market from selling six packs for consumption outside. You can buy beer by the glass outside at the tasting table, singles, or half-gallon Growlers from Carolina Brewery, but please—be kind to our cashiers and don't buy a six pack to take outside.

The Trading Path Association is Cooking at After Hours this week.

The Trading Path Association is a non-profit group dedicated to finding and protecting remnants of America's first frontier here in the southeast. By doing so, the Association will make it possible to tell the story of a time when Red, White, and Black people blended cultures and blood in the birthplace of the South. As there are few documents with which to tell this story, the Association seeks out and protects the archaeology of this hidden moment from destruction by urban sprawl and other such accidents. To raise public consciousness about the threatened artifacts, the Trading Path Association leads monthly hikes along the ancient trade routes of the southeast. The group was founded in 1999 and has worked since then to create public and political awareness and support for their goals.

From terrific Italian varietals to classic French style wines to intriguing new world blends. Think all fruit wine is sticky sweet? Think again. Farm Dinner: Eco Farm!

Thursday, August 17, 5:30-9:00 pm
Nestled back in the trees of Orange County, Cindy and John Soehner are working hard to create a farm out of a tangle of North Carolina woods. Eco Farm consists of twenty-three acres set in a lush pocket where the weeds grow as vigorously as the flowers and the vegetables. Like many of our small local farmers growing the organic way, they do most of the work by hand without tractors, spreaders and other large equipment. They are fortunate that the soil is rich and fertile with good drainage, and that they have a deep well and ponds for irrigation to get them through periodic droughts. John is also grateful to the unknown farmer who once tilled his land. "There's not a rock out there," he says with a smile.

Cindy and John will grow anything that people want to buy, and they have become known for their arugula at the Farmers' Market. Their spicy mesclun salad mix makes eating salad fun again. Toss in a few tiny Sungold tomatoes and you have a great treat. Basil, eggplants, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and more crowd the rows that stretch out in the sun on Eco Farm.

Finding fresh goodies from Eco Farm is easy. They sell at all the local markets, Carrboro on Wednesday and Saturday, Fearrington on Tuesday and Southern Village on Thursday. You've probably eaten John s greens at a number of local restaurants and many of you know Cindy from her years behind the bakery counter at Weaver Street Market. NOw you'll have another chance to enjoy their produce at Panzanella's Farm Dinner.
