Weaver Street Market has been a participant in RSVVP since its inception eighteen years ago when restaurants, newspapers, TV, and radio came together to help the emergency food providers of North Carolina. RSVVP is a play on the acronym RSVP, where the VV stands for 10 (V is 5 in the Roman numeral system). Restaurants donate 10% of their gross proceeds and the media donate advertising time to get the word out. As Weaver Street Market has expanded over the years, so has our commitment to RSVVP. Weaver Street Market in Southern Village and Panzanella are also contributors to RSVVP. Our contribution goes directly to the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service. More

The Inter-Faith Council for Social Service is an amazing organization that started way back in the sixties before there were many government organizations helping people who needed food, shelter, and social services. Their list of services includes the Community Kitchen that serves around 80,000 meals a year, the Community House and HomeStart that provide beds and social service counseling for the homeless, Health Clinics, Hispanic Outreach, and more. Please join Weaver Street Market and Panzanella in supporting such a great local organization by eating out today!

Certified Organic Parmigiano Reggiano!
This excellent parmigiano reggiano comes from a the Santa Rita Dairy cooperative, a group of eight farms in the Appenine Mountains of Italy. They follow an artisanal process that has been handed down from generation to generation to achieve a cheese of supreme quality. In addition to their cheese-making skills, the cows are fed an all organic diet with no GMO sources of feed. The cheese is aged for twenty -four months.

This Reggiano Parmegiano is great for cooking or topping sauces or salads. It's also fun to nibble on! Look for it in the cheese case in both Weaver Street Market in Carrboro and Southern Village.

Southern Village Expansion Update
By Marilyn Butler, SV Store Manager
Smiles replace confused looks when shoppers hear about the changes to come at our rearranged Southern Village store. We've finished the first stage of the expansion resulting in 8 more feet for the dairy cooler, 6 more doors for the freezer, and all new produce cases that make the fruits and vegetables shine. To accomplish all this, we moved products around, sometimes more than once, and ended up with some permanent and some temporary changes. (No, the bulk bins won't stay in the produce aisle!) We appreciate how great all of you have been through this musical chairs phase.

Some sleight of hand makes the store look much bigger already, but the added space is still yet to come. The wall behind the wine shelves will move back to form a cheese, wine and beer section, and the center island will be split into a hot bar and sandwich area at the back, and a bakery and coffeebar through the center of the store. We'll add grocery shelves to the existing aisles and reorient the cash registers to form lanes.

To me, some of the most exciting changes are the ones you won't see out on the retail floor. Moving the hotbar to the back allows us to have more of a kitchen area than the center island now affords us. That will give us more space and more flexibility in our food preparation. Also, we're increasing the size of the back room and the walk-in cooler to allow us to store deliveries in the back before stocking. All of you who have dodged the dairy pallet in the aisle or stepped over boxes understand how great this will be!

All of the staff are very excited about the expansion and love to talk about it, so please ask us any questions you may have. And when you're wondering "Now where did they put the...?", pull one of us over and ask. Thank you for your support!
When to Prune?
By Kris Brannan
Many of you may be wondering when you can prune the plants in your garden. Some pruning can be done now. Fall is the perfect time to remove dead or diseased branches from shrubs or trees. Once the leaves have fallen from your deciduous trees you can remove dead branches. You can also remove any interior branches or cross branches. Interior branches are branches that are growing toward the main leader of the tree and cross branches are those branches that are growing from one side of the tree across the main leader. Also you can remove branches that are rubbing together. The rubbing together of two branches may leave the tree susceptible to disease.

Now is a good time to prune the following: Butterfly Bush, Abelia, Beautyberry, Gardenia, Rose of Sharon, Hydrangea-summer blooming, Osmanthus, Ligustrum, and Sumac. Many of these can be pruned heavily depending on desired growing season height.

Do not prune spring flowering plants. These must be pruned after blooming. However, if the plant needs pruning due to disease or damage go ahead and prune; just realize that spring blooming will be reduced.

Sparkling Wine Dinner

Sparkling Wine Dinner
Monday, December 11
7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Join us Monday, December 11, and explore the amazing world of sparkling wines. What is sparkling wine? Well according to the Oxford companion to wine it is "a wine which bubbles when poured into a glass". To so many people it seems like so much more than just that simple explanation. Sparkling wine, and more specifically, Champagne, has always been associated with a certain class or elegance and almost always associated with the occasion of celebration.

The mystery of Sparkling wine carries on with the amazing amount of different styles it can come in. Just the tiniest hint of effervescence can change a simple white wine into something fun and exciting to drink. Sparkling wine can vary as much as still wine; it can be white, pink, and even red. It can be made in a sweet style like Italy's Moscato d'Asti, or bone dry like most French Champagnes. Other aspects of sparkling wines can vary immensely, like the alcoholic levels and the character and strength of the bubbles themselves. Join us for this exciting dinner and enjoy a vast array of sparkling wines and see just how well these wines match with elegant, delicious dishes prepared by Panzanella Chef, Chris Capron.

The cost of this event is $40 per person; space is limited, so reserve early. Please pay in advance and pick up a ticket for this tasting at either Panzanella or the customer service desk at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro.
