10th Anniversary, Sunday, September 30!This is a town-wide event with multiple venues. Weaver Street Market will have music starting at 11 am with our Jazz & More! Brunch and continuing all afternoon. Kick-Off Celebration At the Cat's Cradle, Saturday, September 29 Great Big Gone - 8:00 pm Two Dollar Pistols - 9:00 pm Tres Chicas - 10:00 pm Suggested donation $5.00 Volunteer! The day long, free festival features music at various indoor and outdoor venues all around downtown Carrboro. Volunteers are needed to assist with a variety of festival tasks. Volunteer positions are near music venues so volunteers will be able to enjoy the sounds of the festival while helping to make it a success. Sign up with friends or as a group! Friday, September 28, 6:00 - 9:00 pmDon't forget this Friday is Last Friday in Hillsborough. Events in the downtown historic district run from 6 to 9 PM. This month's featured band is Bo Lozoff, with a demonstration of magic at 5:30 pm by Josh Lozoff, on the old courthouse lawn. Businesses, galleries, studios, restaurants, and museums/ historic sites remain open and offer special events. Artists, food vendors, musicians, and craftspeople set up their wares on the sidewalks. A filmmaker's film series and art walk is also offered. For more information call 919-643-2500. Also this Friday, the Orange County Historical Museum will be opening its newest mini-exhibit, Now Showing: At the Movies in Hillsborough. The exhibit combines a modern audio-visual area with the history of Hillsborough's two movies theaters. Didn't know Hillsborough had two theaters? Then you need to come down and learn all about the Hollywood and the Osbunn. Movie treats will be served...and not at $5 for popcorn, either! The museum will be open 6-9pm. | SWEAT Brunch | |||
Sunday, October 7th, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. on the patio of UNC's Campus Y, UNC SWEAT (Students Working in the Environment for Active Transformation) is hosting a three-course brunch to help reach our fund raising goal of $1500 for a clean water initiative in rural Appalachia and $10,000 for a supported greenhouse and community center in a developing village just south of Cochabamba, Bolivia. Presentations will include work that SWEAT has done in the past and our plans for the future as well as speakers on behalf of rural Appalachia and sustainable development. There will be a silent auction throughout the event that is sure to send a few folks home with some amazing stuff from our community, the Appalachian mountains, and from around the world! Tickets are $15 for students and $20 for adults. Proceeds from the brunch will benefit the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, which fights against mountain top removal practices in West Virginia and the surrounding areas. |
