Authentic Food
Easy Thanksgiving Shopping! continued
Near produce there is a table with fresh-baked, boxed pies. Yum, why not try a Cherry Pie this season? Or grab some quickbread and coffee cake for sweet and easy breakfast treats for you and your guests. Look for those in our pastry department. Our grocery department has pumpkin pie filling and two kinds of stuffing mixes; Arrowhead Mills Organic Savory Stuffing and Chatham Village All Natural Stuffing Mix. You'll find the stuffing mixes across from the orange juice. We still have plenty of fresh, local, all natural turkeys in our meat department along with fresh, local, all natural beef and pork.

WSM beer buyer, Jason Cole, has the perfect beer for Thanksgiving: La Choulette Ambrée. Its brown, caramel, malty, herb flavor goes well with turkey and it has just enough hops to cleanse the palate. In 750ml bottles, it sits on the top shelf of the cooler in our beer department.

The wine department is well stocked with the special wines Peg has picked out to pair with any Thanksgiving dinner, traditional or creative. You'll find these in both our stores:
Le Paradou Viognier Cotes du Luberon
This French Viognier has nice weight and intensity. Flavors of pineapple, lemon, baked apples with nice spicy ginger notes up front. A touch creamy with good balance and a long, lingering finish. Perfect with ham or savory poultry dishes.

Garofoli Rosso Conero "Piancarda"
100% Montepulciano from the Marches region of Italy. This red is well balanced with good earthiness and persistent flavors of black cherry and a touch of spice. Medium weight with good acidity. Matches well with poultry and pork dishes.

Domaine de Fennouillet Vin du pays de Vaucluse Rouge
This southern French red is a pure pleasure to drink. It is medium weight with a fine, silky texture, flavors of warm ripe fruit and a hint of smoke. Perfect with warm, savory dishes like turkey and stuffing or mushroom casserole.

Le Bihan Viellefont Cotes du Duras Rouge
This French red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petite Verdot. It is medium to full-bodied with flavors of currants, black cherry and tea leaves. Nice, fine tannins and lots of flavor. This delicious red will dress up any meal.

SV Holiday 5K
Sunday, December 9
Growing in scope and with more prizes, activities and refreshments than ever, this year's Holiday 5K has been organized with the assistance of the Chapel Hill Service League. This volunteer organization has been a part of the Chapel Hill community since 1939. Proceeds from the 2007 race will be donated to the Service League's many community projects.

There are so many ways to be a part of the fun. The USATF-certified course presents a challenge to the serious runner while the Fun Run and other activities are sure to please the not-so-serious-runner. Sign up with neighbors or friends to run as a team. Children will have their own course to run. Businesses are encouraged to create running teams or donate items for prizes. To find out how to register, make donations or learn about sponsorship opportunities, check out the official Southern Village Holiday 5K and Family Fun Run website below. This event promises to be a great activity for the whole family and a chance to feel good while doing good this holiday season.

A timely examination of human values and the health issues that affect us all, ¡Salud! looks at the curious case of Cuba, a cash-strapped country with what the BBC calls "one of the world's best health systems." From the shores of Africa to the Americas, ¡Salud! hits the road with some of the 28,000 Cuban health professionals serving in 68 countries, and explores the hearts and minds of international medical students in Cuba—now numbering 30,000, including nearly 100 from the USA. Their stories plus testimony from experts around the world bring home the competing agendas that mark the battle for global health—and the complex realities confronting the movement to make healthcare everyone's birth right.

December Wine Dinner

Sparkling Wines!
Monday, December 10
7 - 9:30 pm
Join us Monday December 10, and explore the amazing world of sparkling wines. What is sparkling wine? Well according to the Oxford companion to wine, it is "a wine which bubbles when poured into a glass." To so many people it seems like so much more than just that simple explanation. Sparkling wine, and more specifically, Champagne, has always been associated with a certain class or elegance and almost always associated with the occasion of celebration. The mystery of sparkling wine carries on with the amazing amount of different styles it can come in. Just the tiniest hint of effervescence can change a simple white wine into something fun and exciting to drink. Sparkling wine can vary as much as still wine; it can be white, pink and even red. It can be made in a sweet style like Italy's Moscato d'Asti, or bone dry like most French Champagnes. Other aspects of sparkling wines can vary immensely, like the alcoholic levels and the character and strength of the bubbles themselves. Join us for this exciting dinner: enjoy a vast array of sparkling wines and see just how well these wines match with elegant, delicious dishes prepared by Panzanella Chef, Chris Capron.

The cost of this event is $45 per person; space is limited, so reserve early. Please pay in advance and pick up a ticket for this tasting at either Panzanella or the customer service desk at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro.

"The Randomness of Vision"
New and Old Work by Cat Moleski
Through December 2, 2007

ARTIST STATEMENT: This collection of paintings represents the varied path my artistic interest has taken over the last few years. Images, dreams, new and old photos all catch my imagination and inspire me to translate them into oil paintings. Each painting draws out new and old techniques as I mix or layer the colors. I like the randomness of my vision, as I never quite know where I will go next.

For a few years now I have been working with Venetian Turpentine as an additive, glaze, and extender of my oil colors. I love the richness and depth this material brings to the work, but it is also difficult to handle and takes a long time to dry, creating unexpected drips and blends of colors, or shiny enamel pools of paint.
