Authentic Food
Super Bowl - Super Beer! continued
Saranac is from New York's oldest family-owned brewery and the second oldest in the U.S. Their Pale Ale is a classic. It is a perfectly balanced beer, full of toasted bread flavors and crisp citrus hops. This will match perfectly with any Super Bowl party food. The Black & Tan is a mix of stout and lager for a smooth beer with flavors of dark caramel and roasted nuts. Try with some peanut brittle or brownies with nuts. It's delicious!

Harpoon's flagship beer is their India Pale Ale. This zesty, hoppy beer with notes of citrus, pepper, and lemongrass, will be a hit with those spicy Buffalo wings. And what could be more Boston than a good Irish-style red ale. Harpoon's Hibernian Ale is smooth, clean and very refreshing. This malty "session beer" will match with all types of party food.

Choose your team; choose your beer. We have all four on sale for $6.49. That's everything you need except that automatic robot to fetch your beer for you, so you don't miss any of the commercials!

Fieldwork on Mexican Migration in Tijuana and North Carolina
February 10th, 5:00 pm
Talk by Sergio Chavez and Dr. Ted Mouw

Sergio Chavez is a postdoctoral scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He will be presenting photographs and findings from his research in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico and also discuss his new collaborative research in North Carolina on Mexican migration. The talk will provide an overview of who day laborers in North Carolina are including their backgrounds, migration histories, employment experiences in the U.S., family and friendship ties and how they are coping with the increased anti-immigrant sentiments.

For the past three years, Sergio has been traveling to Tijuana and interviewing former guest workers (participants of the Bracero Program, 1942-1964) and commuter migrants to understand how changing immigration policies and border enforcement have altered the migration and labor market opportunities of these two groups. His talk will provide an historical perspective on Mexican migration by drawing on life histories to understand how the experience of working in the U.S. alters migrants' relationships when they return to their country of origin with their friends, family, and community. In particular, he will discuss the employment opportunities that await former migrants when they return to their country of origin. After discussing his research in Mexico, Sergio will then shift the focus to his new collaborative research with sociologist Ted Mouw, also from the UNC Chapel Hill.

February Wine Dinner

The Heart of Italy
Monday, February 4, 2008
7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Since February is the month of love, we're going right the heart of Italy for our wine dinner. What's the first wine that comes to mind when you think about this region? Chianti? Well, the heart of Italy has more to offer than simple, albeit delicious, Chianti.

Join us on February 4 for the Wine Dinner as we explore regions like The Marches, Tuscany, Umbria and Emilia Romagna, and taste wines like Orvieto, Rosso Piceno, and Lambrusco. These wines are some of the best to match with good honest Italian food. They offer great character and flavor, and are the wines the locals in Italy drink.

So, plan to join us for the Wine Dinner at Panzanella Restaurant on Monday February 4, for a taste of wines from the heart of Italy. You don't have to wear red, and there's no such thing as 'a table for two' at these dinners—it's all family style! Although our February dinner is heart-themed it is most definitely for everyone!

The cost of this event is $45 per person; space is limited, so reserve early. Please pay in advance and pick up a ticket for this tasting at either Panzanella (919.929.6626) or the customer service desk at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro (919.929.0010).

"Controlled Chaos"
New works by Catharine Carter
February 4 - March 31, 2008
Trained as a painter at UNC-CH, Catharine Carter has been a professional photographer for over 30 years. She returns to her fine art roots with the contemporary acrylics series "Controlled Chaos".

"This series explores the process of conflict and resolution. Emotions are expressed, explored, and challenged with color, linear movement and composition. In a process similar to journaling, I allow my uncensored emotions to flow onto the canvas, then step back and create visual order within the chaos. I invite you to experience the process of meeting chaos and coming to resolution through these paintings."

Reception: Monday, March 3, 2008, 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
