Any party is a good excuse for a cake and Mothers' Day and Graduation are two good reasons to indulge in one of our fresh, hand-crafted, scratch baked cakes. Weaver Street Market keeps carrot, vegan chocolate, and a selection of chocolate cakes on hand in the case. However, don't overlook our build-your-own cakes, either. First you get to choose the body: Carrot Cake, Yellow Sponge Cake, Vegan Chocolate Cake, or Chocolate Butter cake. How about a fancy filling? We have Raspberry Preserve or Lemon Curd.

After Hours Begins
It's that time of year again—time to start your weekend early with music on the Weaver Street Market lawn on Thursday nights. Our After Hours music series kicks off on May 22 with the rockin' old time tunes of the Hushpuppies. Pack up your blanket and get ready to hit the lawn!

The music starts at 6 PM. If you don't have time to get home from work and make dinner, come straight to Weaver Street and have a picnic while the music plays. Community groups won't be grilling outside this year, but you can find both hot and cold food options in our deli, as well as a multitude of drinks and desserts.

If you're feeling up to a big meal, the hot bar always has rice and beans; look for grated cheese and salsa are on the salad bar, and mini bags of tortilla chips by the registers. There's always roasted chicken, plus other entrees and sides. Want to sit on the grass, and don't feel like balancing a tray heaped with plates of food? Check out the Grab and Go case behind the salad bar for packaged meals made in our own kitchen: the meals in the black-bottomed containers can be put right into the microwave. (Remove the lid first—it will melt!)

If the warm sunny evening makes you balk at the thought of hot food, there's always a leafy green salad or a choice of potato, pasta, or bean salads from the salad bar. Prepackaged salads can be found in the Grab and Go case; these packages are all made from PLA, the compostable plastic. There are also wraps, quiche wedges, sandwiches, and fruit salad.

I like to put together my own unique picnic: a baguette from the Weaver Street bakery, a section of goat cheese from local Celebrity Dairy, and a quart of organic strawberries from Vollmer Farms, finished off with a fair-trade chocolate bar. You can get as fancy as you want: there's always brie for your baguette in the cheese case, or if you're feeling up to it, some gourmet d'Affinois or Rocastin; look for assorted olives, and dips and spreads for bread, in the case across from the cheese.

Look for our weekly After Hours beer tasting in the wine department. If you don't discover a new favorite at the tasting, old favorites can be found as single bottles in the drink case behind the salad bar. (NC law dictates that we cannot sell 6 packs of alcoholic beverages for consumption on our lawn.) The drink case also has cooled bottles of juice, iced tea, and milk.

You may think you're too busy to deserve a night out in Carrboro, but you need to eat! Why not do it outside, listening to music and soaking up the scene at Thursday night's After Hours?

Community Roots
Homebound Delivery
Volunteers Needed
Weaver Street Market is seeking additional volunteers for our Homebound Delivery program on Wednesday mornings from 9 am - noon. To volunteer, one must be an owner in the Co-op, able to lift full grocery bags, and have transportation to deliver groceries. Volunteers are thanked with a 15% discount on all of their groceries in addition to the 5% owners' discount.

The Homebound Delivery Program is a free benefit available to members of the co-op living within an 8-mile radius of the Carrboro store who are unable to shop for themselves. The program serves long-term homebound Co-op owners, as well as owners of the Co-op who are short-term homebound due to illness or injury. A team of dedicated volunteers runs the program on Wednesday mornings from 9 am - 12 noon. The volunteers take orders over the phone, shop for groceries, and deliver to each participant's home.

If you are interested in volunteering, or would like some more information about the program, please contact Christy at 913-1588.
Board Enews
Weaver Street Market's Board of Directors now publishes a monthly email newsletter featuring current board news, including notification of newly posted minutes, highlights of hot topics and board discussions, forthcoming agenda items that you can share your views on, and board-related volunteer opportunities.
