| RSVVP Day | |||
RSVVP Day
Tuesday, November 11Triangle Restaurants will donate 10% of their proceeds that day to help fight hunger in our community. Weaver Street Market has been a participant in RSVVP since its inception nineteen years ago when restaurants, newspapers, TV, and radio came together to help the emergency food providers of North Carolina. RSVVP is a play on the acronym RSVP, where the VV stands for 10 (V is 5 in the Roman numeral system). Restaurants donate 10% of their gross proceeds and the media donate advertising time to get the word out. As Weaver Street Market has expanded over the years, so has our commitment to RSVVP. Weaver Street Market in Southern Village, in Hillsborough and Panzanella are also contributors to RSVVP. Our contribution goes directly to the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service. The Inter-Faith Council for Social Service is an amazing organization that started way back in the sixties before there were many government organizations helping people who needed food, shelter, and social services. Their list of services includes the Community Kitchen that serves around 80,000 meals a year, the Community House and HomeStart that provide beds and social service counseling for the homeless, Health Clinics, Hispanic Outreach, and more. Please join Weaver Street Market and Panzanella in supporting such a great local organization by eating out on Tuesday, November 11! |

| Project Symphony | |||
Project Symphony presents Symphony No. 1 in C Minor Composed by Ari Jacobson Picker November 1, 7 pm, Hill Hall Auditorium UNC Campus Conducted by Andrew McAfee Performed by the Project Symphony Orchestra With other musical guests: Lost in the Trees & Phil Cook (of Megafaun) Chatham County Together (CCT) will be the recipient of 50% of the proceeds from Project Symphony's 2008 concert. CCT's mission is to encourage 'at risk' youth to become healthy, self-sufficient, and contributing members of society. "By raising money through ticket sales and contributions, Project Symphony's mission is to create a self-sustaining cycle of commissioning new orchestral works by new composers and generating excitement and awareness for a new generation of music lovers." For more information and to purchase tickets visit our website below. Project Symphony's Mission Welcome to Project Symphony, a non-profit organization that supports composers in writing original concert music for orchestra. Project Symphony has a two-part mission: 1) The first part of our mission is to expand the world of modern classical music by commissioning talented composers to write original pieces for orchestra. These original pieces will be premiered at our annual concert, introducing our audiences to the new composers and their compositions. Project Symphony creates a self-sustaining cycle by raising money through ticket sales to commission new orchestral works and feature more composers in concert, and additionally creates excitement and awareness for a new generation of music lovers. 2) Music is our passion, but we are also aware of all the other issues in our community that starve for attention, including environmental, social, and artistic causes. For this reason, the second part of Project symphony's mission is to annually select a non-musical cause to support. The selected cause or organization will receive 50% of the money raised through Project Symphony's concert ticket sales. With this model, Project Symphony cannot only create a cycle of new music, but can also consistently contribute directly to our community. Support us in our cause by attending one of our concerts. Thank you!!! |

"Creating economic alternatives to migration for Mexico's rural residents" Tom O'Connor, volunteer Board member of the Community Foundation of the Bajio, Guanajuato, Mexico Sunday October 26, 2008 at CHICLE, 5:00 pm Free and open to the public Tom recently returned from three and a half years in Guanajuato, Mexico, where he worked as a volunteer for the Community Foundation of the Bajio, a non-profit organization committed to providing economic opportunities for central Mexico's rural poor. The state of Guanajuato is one of Mexico's biggest sources of migrants, many of whom come looking for work in the farm fields, restaurants, and factories of North Carolina. Through his work in the rural communities of Guanajuato, Tom discovered that migration has been a mixed blessing, at best, for Mexico's poor, tearing apart families and destroying the fabric of communities. The Community Foundation of the Bajio has worked for the past decade to build economic opportunities that will provide an alternative to migration. Through the development of cooperatives and small businesses tapping into traditional village skills and crafts, the organization seeks to revitalize communities ravaged by migration. While U.S. politicians propose building higher fences and increasing deportations to address the migration issue, this small non-profit organization is working to build positive alternatives that will have a real, long-term impact on migration. We invite you to come here more about the exciting work of this organization. 101 E Weaver St., 3rd floor, Suite G-1, Carrboro, NC 27510 Ph. 919/933-0398, Fx. 919/933-1142, email. |
