Thank you to our election committee and all the candidates for their hard work and dedication during our election process.

The winner of the Consumer Owner seat is Rickie White and the winner of the Worker Owner seat is Curt Brinkmeyer. Rickie and Curt will begin their terms in January and serve for two years.

The Annual meeting was a great success with over two hundred owners sampling an array of local foods and taking advantage of the opportunity to hear author Michael Shuman speak on building a local food economy.

Holiday Wines
give thanks...we've got great wines for you!
by Peg Todloski, WSM Wine Merchandiser

Each year I sit down and taste lots of wines, looking for the perfect offerings for this Holiday feast to offer to you at the best possible prices. This year the things that came to my mind when making decisions for our featured wines were three things: value, quality and wide-spread appeal. Value is the number one word on people's lips these days; everyone wants to make sure they're getting the best product for their money. Quality is always important, but especially around this time of year, you want to make sure you're serving a wine that matches the food you so carefully purchased and labored over to create this once-a-year feast. Wide-spread appeal is something I thought about because in my own family and circle of friends, I know it's hard to find a wine that everyone will enjoy. I tried to pick wines that have the most appeal to a large group of people, sure to please even the pickiest of guests. (I usually play this role in my family).

We've selected wines from three wineries that each have their place at your holiday gathering. So, keep reading to find the right wine for your next feast, get-together, or holiday celebration. Here you'll find wines that range from light, crisp and delicate to hearty, complex, and full bodied.

Reserve de la Dame a l'Oiseau Cotes-du-Rhone Rouge
This Southern French red is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. Good amount of dark berry fruit, nice earthiness, and a long dusty finish. Well-made and complex. Sale $8.99, regularly $12.99

Reserve de la Dame a l'Oiseau Cotes-du-Rhone Blanc
This is a lovely Southern French white made up of a blend of 70% Grenache Blanc and 30% Marsanne and Roussanne. Bright zesty citrus flavors with a round, delicate texture. Lean and dry with a clean minerally finish. Great with a variety of cheeses or grilled pork. Sale $8.99, regularly $12.99

La Fortuna Pinot Noir
This is a lovely Chilean Pinot Noir for an even better price. Medium weight with pretty cherry fruit and hint of spice and good richness on the finish. Let this beauty breathe for at least a half an hour and it will match well with a variety of flavorful dishes. This lovely red is organic, too! Sale $8.99, regularly $13.99

La Fortuna Sauvignon Blanc
This is what good Chilean Sauvignon Blanc is all about. Incredibly fresh, sprightly acidity, lots of fresh lemon flavor and a crisp, minerally-salty finish. Have this with any seafood dish and you'll be happy! This zippy white is organic, too! Sale $8.99, regularly $13.99

Jesus Diaz Vinos de Madrid Tinto
I first tried this wine at the winery back in February. Made in an old monastery since 1898, this wine harkens back to the days of old. Pure clean red fruit flavors, a touch of earth and good minerality. This is a lovely, dry Spanish red with no oak-aging, just the pure expression of the fruit. This will match well with poultry and pork dishes. Sale $8.99, regularly $9.99

Jesus Diaz Vinos de Madrid Blanco
Made from the Spanish grape Malvar, this tasty white has more body and finesse than most in this price range. Medium bodied with a round, fleshy texture, this white has crisp apple and stone fruit flavors. Nice minerality on the finish makes this white a great match to pork and poultry and heartier seafood dishes. Sale $8.99, regularly $9.99

RSVVP Day
RSVVP Day Tuesday, November 10
Triangle Restaurants will donate 10% of their proceeds that day to help fight hunger in our community.
Weaver Street Market has been a participant in RSVVP since its inception twenty two years ago when restaurants, newspapers, TV, and radio came together to help the emergency food providers of North Carolina. RSVVP is a play on the acronym RSVP, where the VV stands for 10 (V is 5 in the Roman numeral system). Restaurants donate 10% of their gross proceeds and the media donate advertising time to get the word out. As Weaver Street Market has expanded over the years, so has our commitment to RSVVP. Weaver Street Market in Southern Village, in Hillsborough and Panzanella are also contributors to RSVVP.

Our contribution goes directly to the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service. The Inter-Faith Council for Social Service is an amazing organization that started way back in the sixties before there were many government organizations helping people who needed food, shelter, and social services. Their list of services includes the Community Kitchen that serves around 80,000 meals a year, the Community House and HomeStart that provide beds and social service counseling for the homeless, Health Clinics, Hispanic Outreach, and more. Please join Weaver Street Market and Panzanella in supporting such a great local organization by eating out on Tuesday, November 10!

Artist's Reception

"A puddle of shadow, a blanket of light"
Oil paintings by Matthew Scott Meyers
Now through December 7

Matthew Scott Meyers (Scott) was born and raised in eastern North Carolina and now lives in Carrboro. A self taught artist working in oils, Scott has been painting professionally for six years and has shown his work all over the south. His paintings present a saturated and inspired view of the trees, rocks and creeks of North Carolina. Always looking for light, color and pattern to present itself as he explores the deep woods, Meyers allows his eyes and heart to be filled with the interplay of those elements in the landscape. Back in the studio, using reference photos, he paints while the scene and sensation are still fresh, to capture the place and its impact on him.
Artist's reception will be held on November 9th, 5:30-7:30 pm.
