| Organic Wines! | |||
More Organic Wines!by Peg Todlowski, Specialty Merchandiser We did it again! (With some help, of course) On top of an already impressive selection of organic wines, this summer we're adding over 20 new wines to our wine department. Earlier this year, I took a trip with local importer/distributor Bruno Arricastres. There I found an amazing selection of well-priced, high quality, and yes, organic wines. We travelled to the south of France to the annual Millésime Bio, an organic wine fair. Last year with Bruno's help we brought in almost 20 new organic wines from small family wineries, all under $20. Because Bruno is both importer AND distributor he can import wines and then sell them directly to us - cutting out a middle man. Which cuts out extra time and money in the process. This gives us more control over what wines to bring in and it also gives us the opportunity to offer these wines at terrific prices. Most of these wines are made in very small quantities, so don't expect to find them in too many other places. Each of these wines has something unique and special to offer - all on top of being organic! The other fantastic thing about these wines is their prices. You'll have a hard time finding wines this good at prices like these. We've been tirelessly stocking our shelves with these new and delicious wines so don't delay - come by any one of our stores and pick one up to day. You'll find terrific red, white & rosé wines from Spain's Utiel-Requena and Alicante regions, and wines from all over France like Burgundy, Bordeaux, Loire Valley, Rhone Valley and the Languedoc. All summer long these new wines from my wine-buying trip will be popping up in our stores, so be sure to stop by frequently for amazing values on delicious organic wines. This week, you should try one of these amazing wines from the winery, Clos du Gravillas in France's region of Saint Jean de Minervois. We've got two reds and a lovely dessert wine. The reds are big and brooding, dark and inky. The white is fresh and sweet with concentrated flavors of citrus and fresh flowers. These wines are made in extremely small batches, so be sure to try them while you can! CLOS DU GRAVILLAS Choose from: "Le Rendez-vous du Soleil", "Sous les Cailloux des Grillons", or "Douce Providence" Muscat. |

"Charleston Altered" Photographs by Amy Stern Weaver Street Market in Hillsborough Through June 27 Trained as a professional photographer in New York, Amy Stern began her career as a diehard believer in the medium of 35 mm film. She eventually discovered the facility and beauty of digital photography, and now uses both in her work. The very recent group of digital photographs, on exhibit in the Hillsborough store's café, is a somewhat flamboyant but lucid look at the fascinating city of Charleston, South Carolina. A historically rich city, Charleston's architecture is beautiful in itself, but digitally tweaked and edited, Amy's final images evoke a more vivid and dramatic ambiance. It follows that the collection is titled "Charleston Altered". Born and raised in the south, Amy Stern has lived in Atlanta, Tampa, Chicago, New York, and in 2006 happily settled in North Carolina. She now lives in Carrboro with her family, where her portrait photography business is based. To see more of Amy Stern's photography, visit her website. |
