Piedmont Wildlife CenterMuch of the Piedmont Wildlife Center is still in the dreaming stage. The dream of caring for orphaned, sick and injured wildlife, having an educational center for students of veterinarian, zoo, or wildlife medicine, and of building a wildlife wilderness trail. While they search for the perfect home for their vision, the doctors and volunteers of PWC are busy healing and rehabilitating animals in their temporary quarters. They are also working with North Carolina on monitoring the health of wildlife populations. Lots of help is needed to fix and repair the buildings and cages, and care for the land around the shelter. The Piedmont Wildlife Center is the only one of its kind in the Triangle. They are able to support a small staff with community donations alone, but the center couldn’t operate without the help of volunteers. (www.piedmontwildlifecenter.org) Orange EMS & Rescue Squad The Orange EMS & Rescue squad provides aid to Orange County residents. Based in Hillsborough, the organization currently has approximately forty volunteers who provide rescue services, special event medical services and other related services to the community. Looking to the future and the potential needs of our growing community, they identified the need to purchase a “heavy rescue” vehicle. They are asking the community to partner with them in purchasing this piece of equipment. Contrary to popular belief, they do not receive tax dollars. Their total operating budget, including training, equipment, maintenance and utilities, depends upon community fund-raising activities, grants, contracts, and private donations.(www.oemsrs.org) The Arc of Orange County Since the 1950s, the Arc of Orange County has been providing help, education and support to families of and individuals who have developmental disabilities in Orange County. Their many programs help individuals integrate into the community, offer respite to caregivers, and provide social interaction. They pair volunteers with individuals to alleviate isolation and strengthen community connections. The Arc also acts as a liaison between families and other support agencies in the state to ensure access to funding and other programs.(www.arcoforange.org) |

| On the Menu: SO Busy! |
Well, thank goodness for Thanksgiving. Even though it was only one day off, the staff of WSM and Panzanella were ready for a much deserved day of rest. For Panzanella, it all started the previous Monday with the Spanish Wine Dinner. Such a hit it was - that they were turning away people. If you were lucky enough to have gotten in, feel free to make us all green with envy. If you missed the last one, be sure to get on board for the next one - which is December 6th - it will feature French wines. Then in January, we’ll scoot over to Italy. Then Tuesday was RSVVP day. This locally-based organization has enlisted local restaurants to donate 10% of their sales for the day to fight hunger in the area. With almost 100 restaurants in Chapel Hill/Carrboro alone, Panzanella was proud to do our part to help the community. This is the 16th year for RSVVP and it is great to see the community response. People really do recognize what day it is and come out to eat. It was reflected in the second big day in a row for Panzanella and it was only Tuesday. The rest of the week continued to be a good one for the restaurant with the low rumble of Thanksgiving starting to get louder. By the end of the week, chefs and wait staff alike were worn out. It was soon evident why. When the numbers were crunched, Panzanella had broken its single week sales record, even beating some pretty big graduation weeks. For the folks in the store, the preparations began the week before and by Sunday, everyone was in full Thanksgiving mode. The bread and pastry bakeries had someone working 24 hours a day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The refrigerated trailer behind the store was stocked to the giblets with turkeys, produce, and baking necessities from the refrigerated department. The break room had been converted into a recovery room filled with drinks and snacks. Panzanella made it really good. Starting on Tuesday, the chefs kept the recovery room stocked full of pizzas, salads and other goodies for the store staff to refuel with during the busiest days of the year. By the time Wednesday night rolled around, we were all ready to spend some quality time with friends and family. But nearly everyone was back at it on Friday, getting ready for the weekend. We hope you had a safe and relaxing holiday, too! So ... don’t forget the French Wine Dinner on December 6th and also make your reservations now (parties of 6 or more) for Panzanella’s New Year’s Eve dinner. Along with the regular menu, they’ll offer some festive dishes you’ll love. See you soon. |

| Wine Wednesdays |

Don’t miss this chance to enjoy a great bottle of wine at a great value. Featured wines will not be available by the glass. Regular wine list will be available.

| French Wine Tasting Dinner |
|
Join us Monday Evening, December 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Panzanella for a tasting of some of the most prestigious wines from France.
We’ll taste wines from regions as well known as Champagne, and those as unusual as Chinon. We welcome Bruno Arricastres of Oenophilia, a local wine distributor and importer, to take us on a wine tasting tour of this amazing country. Plenty of delicious food from the Panzanella kitchen will be served to complement these wonderful wines. The cost of this event is $45 per person; space is limited, so reserve early. These dinners usually sell out quickly! Please pay in advance and pick up a ticket for this tasting at either Panzanella or the customer service desk at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro. |
