Seasons Greetings to all. As you finish up the last of your shopping, wrapping and cooking don't forget to take a minute to relax with some of the suggestions from Jenni Butler of our Wellness Department (see Holiday Stress Busters below) or take Peg Conway, our wine buyer's advice and keep a bottle of the good stuff nearby to cheer you through these last busy days. Holiday Stress Busters
How to Survive the Holidays...Without Stress!!

Tension, nerves, anxiety, low energy...sound familiar? 'Tis the season to be extra stressed which, in turn, will ultimately affect your overall health, and let's face it—being sick over the holidays will only add stress. The more "stressed out" you become, the more vulnerable you will be to colds, flu, allergies, ulcers, even heart attacks and high blood pressure. Here are some great ways to survive holiday stress before it takes over.

The first thing that comes to mind is deep breathing. It relieves and rejuvenates your brain by reducing overall stress and increasing creative mental energy. There is a direct connection between your breath and state of mind. Focus, center, and take conscious slow, deep, regular breaths.

The Wellness Department offers a wide variety of stress-free products. My personal favorite is Gaia Herbs Serenity liquid caps. This blend contains herbal relaxers and anxiety busters. It helps your body relax and your mind focus. It actually gives me energy, too! Serenity is on sale through January 4th for $17.95.

Suki's Blends, Absolute Stress Arrest, is a one ounce tincture with ethically wild crafted, garden fresh St. John's Wort, Kava Kava, and Rescue Remedy. These herbs provide apprehension prevention and herbal therapy for stress.

Aromatherapy is another great way to alleviate stress. Chamomile, sandalwood, bergamot, and lavender essential oils can be infused in the home or office for relaxing effects. Try Aura Cacia's Lavender Harvest Mineral Bath Packets. They are $1.79 through January 1st.

Relax, breath, and enjoy the holidays without the stress. Stop in the Wellness Department for more great ideas.

Happy stress free holidays-Jenni Butler
Don't Forget the Peacestachios
For several years now Weaver Street Market has bagged pistachios for our Hope for the Holidays fund-raiser. These festive bags make a great hostess, or thank-you gift and also save you the time of bagging them yourself when you're in a hurry to get home or go out.

Each pound of "Peacestachios" sold donates 50¢ to the Hope for the Holiday Fund. So why not indulge a little and grab a bag on your way out the door?
Cook Cookbooks at the Co-op
Still doing some last minute holiday shopping? What's a better present than a thousand recipes! Heart of the Home, an updated vegan version of traditional Southern cuisine; Mama Dip's Family Cookbook, recipes from Mildred Council's Franklin Street restaurant; Seasoned in the South, by Bill Smith from Crook's Corner; and Cindy Soehner's Diet of the Gods.

Also, we are introducing a variety of world cuisine cookbooks to keep your palate well traveled. Choose from The Mediterranean Kitchen, Lidia's Italian Table, The Food of Portugal, and Cooking at Home on Rue Tatin. Of course, we also have the classics, including a selection of special diet, and baking cookbooks.

Organic French Wine Dinner
Monday, January 16, 2006 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Organic wines, just like organic foods, are being sought out for their purity, quality, and deliciousness. While wine-producers in the US are just now figuring out how to make good organic wines, in Europe, they have been doing it for centuries.

Hundreds of years ago, chemicals were not available as they are now, so wine-producers came up with natural ways to keep vines and grapes healthy. France is definitely the most famous and well-respected wine-producing country in the world, and many wine-producing families have been making organic wines for centuries. Interested in tasting delicious French wines? Well you can do it while knowing they are all organically produced! We'll taste wines from all over France; regions like the Loire, Provence and lots more! Join us for an evening of wonderful wines and plenty of delicious food created to complement the wines by Panzanella Chef, Peter McCloskey.

Tickets are limited, so reserve early! Cost is $35. You may purchase tickets in advance at either Panzanella or the Customer Service Desk at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro.
