SkinFood’s Ultimate Body Salve is a skin cream made at the Blue Ridge Food Ventures facility in Asheville, NC by Kara and Tyler Errickson. The birth of their daughter while living in Bali, and the Balinese belief that “pursuit of external beauty is not a shallow indulgence, but rather a physical reflection of internal health” inspired the Erricksons to create it. “Create the perfect surface ecology for your body’s landscape to thrive with seven epic ingredients, powerful healers and mighty defenders. Grown organically and harvested naturally to deliver more nutrients and remove more waste.”
The Erricksons wanted their product free of the chemicals found in mainstream cosmetics. They advocate for accurate labeling of cosmetics, particularly organic ingredients, since the industry has some quirks in its review processes. They also advocate for sustainable material and energy use. SkinFood’s formula contains only botanical ingredients (coconut oil, palm fruit oil, beeswax, castor oil, palmarosa*, rosemary verbenon*, and helichrysum*, * indicates essential oils) that are certified organic by the USDA under the National Organic Program. The package is 90% recycled paper (75% post-consumer) printed with water based inks and adhesives. It is also designed to be mess-free and portable.
