Guy Parker’s all-natural barbeque sauce originated in Goldsboro, North Carolina, decades ago. After working at a barbeque restaurant, Guy opened Guy Parker’s Barbeque Restaurant with the help of his wife, Yvonne, in 1962. He developed his signature sauce to use in his dishes.
At the time, restaurants in Wayne County were still segregated. But as word of Guy’s great barbeque got out, locals of both races came to eat, and Guy seated them all together. The restaurant continued as an integrated restaurant where neighbors met over delicious barbeque. Guy’s sons worked in the restaurant, and Guy sourced ingredients from local farms.
After 43 years, Guy became ill and closed his restaurant in 2005. None of his sons wanted to run it. After his death, however, his youngest son John came across the recipe for his barbeque sauce. He set about recreating it, doing taste tests until his mother deemed it correct. Then he founded a bottling company and began selling Guy Parker’s Old Fashioned Barbecue Sauce and Marinade.
Guy Parker’s BBQ Sauce is a vinegar-based sauce that can be used as a marinade for pork, beef, poultry, fish, seafood, and wild game. You can use it in vegetables, soups, and stews, or add it to a salad dressing. Read more on their website or in this news article.
