RuffinSlater.jpgRuffin Slater

Ruffin is a founder of Weaver Street Market and has been General Manager since it opened in 1988. Before that he was the manager of the Durham Food Co-op and a director of Mountain Warehouse, a co-op warehouse in Durham.

Ruffin is board member of the National Co-op Grocers Association. He lives in the Arcadia, a co-housing community in Carrboro.

CurtBrinkmeyer.jpgCurt Brinkmeyer

Curt is a worker owner, serving as the Finance and Human Resources Assistant located at the Food House in Hillsborough. Before his current position, he worked as a clerk and later as a lead clerk in the Carrboro produce department. He has worked for Weaver Street Market since moving to North Carolina in the fall of 2007.

Curt is also the assistant organizer for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Community Games meet up – a local community group that organizes multiple weekly events where people come, socialize, and try new board games. Currently he is in charge of organizing and overseeing a weekly meet up that rotates between a role playing game and a trading card game on Tuesday nights.

Jon is a worker owner and Bread Baker at the Food House in Hillsborough. He began working at Weaver Street Market in 2008 to help move the bakery from its old location in Carrboro to its new space in the Food House. Before baking, he studied English and Creative Writing at UNC-Chapel Hill and wrote a manuscript of poems for his honors thesis. Jon also works part time for the Arc of Orange County, where he provides community support for a 20-year-old man with autism. Jon lives with his wife, Melissa, in Carrboro.

LisaBest.jpgLisa Best

Lisa Best is a consumer owner who joined the Board in 2012. She is a health coach (Board Certified Nutritionist) with a PhD in Holistic Nutrition. She has a background in marketing, finance, insurance and real estate (MBA), and is the owner of Best Properties,  real estate investment company operating in Orange and Durham Counties for the past 18 years. She has also been a day-trader in the Forex market for the last 5 years.

Lisa's favorite activities include playing sports and board games with her 6 year-old son; walking on the beach; exploring business ventures with her oldest son, an i-Phone app writer; watching her daughter dance; and tutoring SAT students in the community. (Her two oldest children are college graduates she homeschooled for six years.) Lisa is a member of Pleasant Green United Methodist Church, and has been a member of the Pleasant Green Praise Band as a singer and guitar player.

Preventative wellness coaching is predicated on the availability of healthy, organic and natural whole foods, so Lisa is highly motivated to ensure the success of Weaver Street Market in both the Hillsborough area and surrounding communities, and she is excited to be an active participant in the co-op business model.

LindaStier.jpg Linda Stier

Linda is a consumer owner and an appointed member of the Board of Directors.  She became an owner before the Carrboro store opened in June, 1988 and for many years volunteered in the Finance Department producing management reports. From 1990-92, she was an elected consumer-owner representative to the board and since 1995, she has served on the board as an appointed member and served 9 years as board chair.

Linda is a consultant, trainer and coach committed to effective governing leadership and accountability. She works with boards of directors in all sectors – public, private, non-profit and cooperative. She is co-author of The Policy Governance Fieldbook and author of numerous articles and monographs on governance and owner accountability.

Linda has served on boards or was managing staff in a wide variety of organizations from performing arts to county strategic planning, sustainable agriculture and leadership training. Linda enjoys nature, walking, gardening, music, and discovery. She and her husband Howard live in Chatham County.

DaveBright.jpgDave Bright

Dave, a consumer owner, joined the co-op in 1996, served as an elected director from 2009 to 2011, and since 2012, has served as an appointed director. He can normally be seen volunteering at the Carrboro store on Saturday mornings. He finds volunteering to be a great way to meet and talk with other members. Dave loves the sense of community that Weaver Street brings to Carrboro and the way that it has helped the Local movement.

Dave currently works for Novo Nordisk, a Danish pharmaceutical company that produces insulin, where he manages various facility services including the safety and environmental programs.

Dave is married to Gini Bright, a Social Worker, who used to volunteer at Weaver Street and covers for him once in a while. He has two lovely daughters and two grandsons who fortunately live close by so he can enjoy them.
