Fellow redheads Dave Henderson and Caitlin Law started Red’s Quality Acre in 2015 on an acre of land. The name says it all.
After a stint working in urban gardens in Chicago, the couple had traveled back to Dave’s hometown of Durham with a dream of producing high quality produce with sustainable methods. Seeing an opportunity in the wholesale produce market, Dave and Caitlin created a business plan based on selling wholesale to restaurants and retailers as well as having a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) subscription plan. With this model, their time is spent in the field growing produce rather than at a farmer’s market selling produce.
Red’s Quality Acre is now certified naturally grown, a peer certification that is less expensive to obtain than the organic certification.
The time and attention shows in the carefully tended rows of vegetables and the beautiful produce on our shelves at Weaver Street Market. They deliver to our stores twice each week, bringing us items like bags of washed salad mixes, bunches of carrots and rainbow chard, and pints of sweet sungold cherry tomatoes. You can’t miss the label!
