DESCRIPTION:RESCHEDULED \nJoin us for a Paperhand Puppet Intervention Puppet Show and Halloween Parade sponsored by School of Rock Chapel Hill\, Weaver Street Market\, Southern Village\, and Kidzu Children’s Museum! \nAn interactive 45 minute show for all ages will feature favorite creatures and characters. The performance will be followed by a Halloween costume parade around Market Street. \nPaperhand Puppet Intervention is a puppet theater company based out of Saxapahaw\, NC. For 17 years they have created large-scale puppet extravaganzas complete with giant puppets\, masks\, shadow puppets\, stilt dancing\, painted flats\, and live music. It’s a show for all ages!

DESCRIPTION:Participating restaurants contribute 10% of their total proceeds on RSVVP Day (from breakfast\, lunch\, dinner and in-between snacks) to benefit the IFC’s FoodFirst food programs: Food Pantry and Community Kitchen. Last year 103 restaurants and their customers raised more than $24\,000 for IFC hunger-relief programs\, bringing the 28-year total to more than $500\,000.  The 2017 goal is to raise $25\,000. \nOur cafes all participate. Their name and vision derive from the place in the Bible where the prophet Jeremiah purchases a field and tells the Israelites to “plant gardens” and “seek the peace of the city” in the wake of violence (Jer. 29:7\, 9). Our mission is to cultivate peace in this rural community by using good food and sustainable agriculture to connect people with their neighbors\, the land\, and God. Today\, we live out this mission through educational internships for youth and young adults\, and a sliding-scale Community Supported Agriculture program called HarvestShare\, which\, through partnerships with churches and individual donors\, makes fresh produce accessible and affordable for households in Cedar Grove and the surrounding area.

DESCRIPTION:Tell your kids to gather their old books! It’s a book exchange for children\, sponsored by Chapel Hill Bookworms at Southern Village Community Park (Big Picnic Area). Families will save money\, recycle\, and go home with “new” books. Plus\, kids will have a chance to meet other local bookworms. All childrens and young adult books are welcome\, including baby books. Left over books will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House and Book Harvest. \nKids receive stickers depending on how many books they bring\, and use the stickers to “purchase” their “new” books. The organizers (who are teachers) bring a box of books to get the exchange started. SUMMARY:OCIM Walk for Hunger
DESCRIPTION:A Walk for Hunger brings together dedicated citizens from congregations\, community groups\, and area businesses\, with a common goal – fighting hunger in this community. OCIM (one of our Community Food Partners) sponsors the event and would love to have you be a part of it! Proceeds from the walk support the OCIM Food Pantry and the Meals on Wheels Ministry. \nThe walk will begin at Mt. Bright Missionary Baptist Church (211 W Union St\, Hillsborough) and meander through town to Gold Park. Round trip\, it will be under three miles. To participate\, gather donations from sponsors and turn them in at the walk. Donations are also welcome. Anyone can participate; you don’t have to pay to walk. \nRegistration will begin at 1 PM\, and the walk starts at 2 PM. We hope to see you and your family there!
