We’ve been a fan of The Duck Rabbit Craft Brewery since their beginning in 2004. Founder Paul Philippon left a career teaching university philosophy to open the microbrewery in Farmville, NC. As a tie to his former life, he used a diagram from one of his philosophy books as the company logo: the duck-rabbit diagram looks like a duck or a rabbit, depending on the viewer’s perspective
Paul decided to focus on dark beers, an oft-overlooked segment of the beer population (especially in North Carolina back in 2004). It was a gamble but his beers have met with acclaim. And brewing seems to be going well: as he writes on his their website, “When we brew, we’re happy and we dance. During fermentation, we sing softly to the yeast.”
