Celeste Beatty launched Harlem Brewing Company in 2000, inspired by her love of the craft and the Harlem community. She became the first African-American woman brewer to launch a commercially distributed beer.
Celeste follows her truth by doing what she calls Brewing it Forward by supporting countless charities and community organizations while, at the same time, tapping into her passion for creating beers that infuse flavor, passion, and pride. She has used her influence to help open doors for a new generation of brewers and indy beer distributors.
Harlem Brewing’s story began more than 20 years ago, when word spread about a beer from Harlem. Starting with small-batch home brews, their flagship Harlem Sugar Hill Golden Ale and Harlem Renaissance Wit were instant hits! Widely distributed throughout NYC, along the east coast as well as Japan and the UK. Celeste and her beers have received many prestigious awards.
In 2018, Celeste co-launched the Rocky Mount Brewery, a collaboration project between Harlem Brew South and Spaceway Brewing in Rocky Mount, NC to help address the challenges she sees with beer deserts (areas that lack opportunities in craft brewing.) Harlem Brew South is currently renovating a historic tobacco warehouse to house its first taproom and teaching brewery.
At Harlem Beer, one taste does not fit all. “We seek to bring extraordinary beers with empowering stories directly to those who want it. We’re dedicated to offering great beverages that reflect the flavor and uniqueness of the craft and communities that inspire them.”
Weaver Street is excited to offer Harlem Brewing, a new Game Changer product, in our stores.
