El Centro Hispano works to strengthen the community, build bridges and advocate for equity and inclusion for Hispanics/Latinos in the Triangle area of North Carolina.
FOCUS AREAS:
El Centro Hispano has as its overarching goal to expand educational opportunities for personal growth and development of Hispanic/Latino community members, from child to adult. Efforts address three main components: literacy and academic achievement for children, youth, and adults; workforce readiness and development; and community education, advocacy, and civic engagement; particularly that which leads toward citizenship and leadership development.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE
The Center for Employment & Leadership (CEL) is part of the Economic Development Program, and works to strengthening day laborers, domestic, temporal and permanent workers without a steady job and for those who have low income to be able to find secure and fair jobs through development of leadership skills activities, services advocacy, community organizing and partnership.
ADVOCACY & CIVIC PARTICIPATION INITIATIVE
El Centro Hispano’s newest area of focus, Community Organizing, is the extension of our longer-established services. With our Leadership Development, Community Development & Community Action programs, we are training Hispanic/Latino leaders to improve quality of life for the entire community.
El Centro Hispano’s Community Health Program works with the Hispanic/Latinx community to advance overall health and well-being through our Health Prevention & Promotion, Health Service Access & Healthy Activities programming.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT INITIATIVE
El Centro Hispano’s Community Support Program seeks to increase access to information, tools, and resources needed by community members to address their needs and/or achieve their goals. Services include information and referral, case management, linkage to area resources, interpretation/translation, legal clinics, immigrant assistance, community forums, and other enabling support or consultation needed. By providing these services, the staff gathers data, identify concerns, and track service barriers to later work with service providers on making improvements.
