Firefly Farms is a family-owned business that has been operating in northern Appalachia since 2002. Beginning with a herd of just 30 goats and aging cheese in the basement of their Western Maryland home, founders Mike Koch and Pablo Solanet have always focused on an excellent product made by good people.
A grassroots business, Firefly got their start in the Farmers Markets of Washington DC and Baltimore and have organically grown to a place where they can now be found in large nationwide retailers. With a continued commitment to environmental sustainability, Firefly Farms actively works to reduce its carbon footprint. In addition to placing an importance on the environment, Firefly Farms also places importance on the growth and sustainability of their local agricultural community. All their family farmers are located within a 30-mile radius of the production facility.
These efforts have allowed Firefly to focus on quality products, healthy herds, and fair relationships with all their producers year-round. The quality of their hand-crafted cheeses has not gone unnoticed. With 105 cumulative awards, Firefly Farms has been recognized for its superior product and artisanship.
