It all started on a cruise to the Grand Cayman and Cozumel. After bringing back a few bottles of rum, Rhonda L. Jones, decided to make a rum cake. That was the beginning of Chez Moi Bakery. Founded in 2005, the first several years Rhonda worked a full-time job and felt that Chez Moi was just a hobby. On March 23, 2013, while still working full time, Rhonda had a dessert food truck which offered rum cake ice cream cake-wiches, lemon cake and panna cotta in addition to the flagship rum cake.
In February 2015, Rhonda won national recognition and knew it was time to take a leap of faith and resign from her full-time job. That leap of faith paid off. Along with a variety of other accolades and accomplishments, Chez Moi was voted “2018 Dessert Food Truck of the Year” by Mobile-Cuisine.com, and Rhonda was invited by Tuskegee University twice in 2019 to tell her story about being a food entrepreneur and food trucker.
During the pandemic, she decided to work on making one of her favorite items sold on the food truck into a retail-ready product. “Lemon Curd is one of my favorite things,” Rhonda says. In September 2020 she welcomed Grab a Spoon Lemon Curd and Lime Curd to the Chez Moi Brand. In August 2020 she received a grant from Discover’s “Eat It Forward” Program and most recently was chosen to participate in the Spectrum Reach “Pay It Forward” Program. Rhonda is looking forward to seeing what else her incredible, entrepreneurial journey has in store!
