Friends Ryan Speckman and Lin Peterson started Locals Seafood in 2010 with a cooler full of shrimp and a pick-up truck. Their mission is to sell the freshest possible seafood caught by North Carolina fishermen. We’re lucky that they’ve come to the Triangle to do it!
Locals Seafood is committed to turnaround time, traceability, and in-house operations. The owners drive to the coast three to four times each week, where they hand-select seafood from fishermen and fish houses on the coast: blue crab from Denny Reynolds in Columbia, red drum from O’Neal’s Sea Harvest, or shrimp from Luke Midgett in Stumpy Point, for example. They form personal relationships with their sources.
Back in Raleigh, their full-time cutting staff process and package the seafood in their FDA-approved HACCP facility. Customers typically get the product only one to two days after it is caught. Deliveries arrive at our stores on Wednesday and Friday afternoons.
Sea creature life cycles and fishing regulations result in the seasonal availability of fish and other seafood. The selection offered therefore changes throughout the year. Look for displays in our store (they may disappear seasonally).
