I never saw a farm as just a place to grow crops. I saw it as a place to grow possibilities.” These are the words of Kamal Bell, Founder of Sankofa Farms. Their goal, to create a sustainable food source for minorities in both rural and urban areas located in Durham and Orange County, aims to uplift those most impacted by food insecurity. Additionally, they have opened an agricultural academy which targets African American youth ranging from the ages of eleven to seventeen years old. Their hope is to improve the perception of STEM and agriculturally related professions, increase the dollars earned, improve career readiness skills, and improve school performance for their attendees
