Weaver Street Market is always looking for ways to improve efficiency and ensure the security of transactions, both for our customers and for the co-op as a whole. Effective January 1, 2026, we will no longer be able to accept personal checks at the register.
As payment technologies have evolved, our community has evolved with them. The fraction of customers using personal checks has continued to decline as credit/debit cards and their mobile counterparts now represent the vast majority of transactions.
Paper checks carry a higher risk of fraud and identity theft, and it’s important to us to protect both the financial well-being of our cooperative as well as that of our owners. Eliminating checks will help us to minimize this risk.
We will continue to accept:
- Cash
- Weaver Street Market gift cards
- Major credit and debit cards
- EBT/SNAP benefits
As a reminder to our community, cash transactions, or gift cards purchased with cash, have the lowest cost to the co-op in terms of overall fees. Using these payment methods helps us reallocate funds that would otherwise be spent on processing fees to other, more valuable investments in our store and community.
We understand this change may require some of our shoppers to change their routine, and our staff is happy to answer questions as we make this transition. Thank you for continuing to be a part of our community and for your support of the co-op!
