Food for the Summer is a program that provides weekday lunches during the summer to youth (under 18) at walkable sites throughout Chapel Hill-Carrboro.
The meals are prepared by Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School (CHCCS) cafeteria staff and are delivered by volunteers who supervise the mealtime and interact with the children.
Last year the summer meals program provided over 48,000 meals! Of those, over 24,000 were delivered by volunteers. This year they hope to increase that number. To do so there are more than 1,500 volunteer slots to fill.
Sign-ups for this summer are now open on-line. You can learn more about the program at www.foodforthesummer.org and can access SignUp.com by clicking on the big green logo button on the homepage.
