We’re excited to bring our customers face masks made at Harriss & Covington Hosiery Mills in High Point, NC. Working together with the mill and our employee wellness partner, EHOP Health, we’re supplying these masks to our employees, and to you.
About the Project
We want to keep our employees as safe as possible, and do all that we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19, while still being able to provide food to customers. Given the shortages in the usual supply of masks and the imminent need for them in hospitals, we looked for an alternative solution.
Working together with EHOP Health, the company that administers our employee wellness program, we contacted Harriss & Covington Hosiery Mills. They quickly arranged to produce reusable face masks for our staff, and for us to sell to customers. We’re selling these masks at cost. We’re glad to be able to offer them while helping a local business keep its production up.
Remember, reusable masks should be washed regularly, and if you take your mask off and on during an outing, keep the same side against your face.
About the Mill and North Carolina Textiles
In the past few decades, the textile industry in America and North Carolina has declined as companies sent work to other countries where labor was cheaper. However, North Carolina still has many textile mills, and there have been small increases in production and other signs of hope in recent years.
American consumers are interested in products that are made in America, and surveys show that American-made products are considered high quality around the world. North Carolina’s well-established textile supply chain means products can be made more quickly here than offshore. And Millennials are interested in where their purchases come from and the story behind them.
Harriss & Covington Hosiery Mills was founded in 1920, during the heyday of the North Carolina textile industry. They focused on making socks. When much production went overseas, the family owners committed to keep production in the United States. They invested in top-notch machinery and formed alliances with others in the industry, and maintained their goals of producing quality products and providing excellent customer service. They currently have 280 employees. (Read more: (www.harrissandcov.com)
