When the summer brings ripe red tomatoes and fresh basil, thoughts turn to caprese salad. For years, we’ve carried fresh mozzarella in water made by Lioni Latticini. The Salzarulo family began Lioni Latticini in Lioni, Italy. In 1980, they opened a branch in Brooklyn, New York, to make fresh mozzarella for sale in the United States. The family upholds old Italian values and traditions but uses modern equipment imported from Italy. They are dedicated to quality.

This summer, we’re importing a limited quantity of a very special cheese from the Lioni branch in Italy: Burrata Con Panna won the gold metal at the 2012 World Cheese Awards. Burrata is a fresh mozzarella filled with a light, creamy filling: panna di latte merged with pasta filata, carefully spun pieces of curd. This is a decadent gourmet cheese that you don’t want to miss. This week, try it for $6.99, $2 off the regular price.
