Charlie’s Soap is a family-owned company in North Carolina. It began in 1976 when Charlie Sutherland, Jr., developed a soap to clean the machinery at the factory where he worked. Charlie diversified by inventing soaps for the home, which became his focus when the machinery soap was no longer in demand. The company now makes the original Charlie’s Soap laundry powder, a newer powder and a laundry liquid, and spray bottle cleaners and additional laundry products.
Charlie’s Soap’s website includes the fascinating results of research tests done with the soaps, which are effective, biodegradable, and non-toxic. For example, the laundry soap was tested on stains from grease to grass to ketchup and removed almost 100% of most stains. The soaps were found to biodegrade within a month’s time and were rated safe for use around lakes and streams. Garments were weighed to determine the amount of soap residue left after washing; Charlie’s exhibited no buildup (see below). See all of the results on Charlie’s website, here.
This weekend only (January 8-10, 2016), Charlie’s indoor/outdoor spray bottle cleaner, kitchen and bathroom cleaner, and laundry liquid are on sale at 30% off. It’s a great time to try out these local, green cleaners.
