Hamantashen is the traditional cookie of Purim and is named after Haman, the holiday’s villain. Some say the triangular cookies resemble the three-cornered hat of Haman, while others say the filled cookies are a reference to “Haman’s pockets” and symbolize the money Haman offered to the King of Persia in exchange for permission to destroy the Jewish people.
Regardless of their etymology, hamantaschen are delicious! We make three varieties: chocolate, apricot walnut, and poppy seed (mun). They’re in stores now through March 3. Bagged dozens will be available on February 24. Below are some shots of our pastry bakers making the cookies.
