You may be surprised to learn that historically, brewing beer was a woman’s job. It wasn’t until the middle ages when monasteries brought male brewers onto the scene. Women continued as brewers until the Industrial Age, when their participation declined.
Ellen Joyner, Jackie Hudspeth, and Michelle Miniutti are reviving that tradition. The three partners founded Bombshell Beer Company in Holly Springs in 2013. Ellen was an avid home brewer and had a business background, Jackie took on managing the operations, and Michelle, who learned home brewing from Ellen, had worked in sales. They outfitted the brewery with custom-designed equipment made in America.

As they scaled up production, their goal was high quality beer with consistent taste that would be “approachable and easy drinking.” They also wanted to market beers to the female beer enthusiast. Their taproom is family and dog friendly.
We now carry Bombshell beers, from North Carolina’s only 100 percent female-owned microbrewery!
