Previously, we described our visit to the Latino Community Credit Union (LCCU), a not-for-profit financial instritution that provides “ethical financial products and education to empower communities.” LCCU will attend our Co-op Fair on April 30, so you can talk with them more about becoming a member.
LCCU offers members accessible loans as well as financial education. Gabe at LCCU shared with us one of their success stories: Adriana Villasenor and her family supplemented their income by selling tires. When business slowed at Adriana’s other job, she decided to grow the tire business and went to LCCU for a loan. In addition to the loan, they invited her to their financial education workshops. The workshops helped Adriana set up her business right; she learned to balance a budget, and as sales increased, she added more inventory and storage. Adriana’s company, Quality Discount Tires in Willow Spring, is a success. “The Latino Credit Union made my dreams come true,” she says. “They trusted me, without really knowing me.”
