North Carolina Black Alliance The North Carolina Black Alliance is a local nonprofit organization that focuses on addressing policy level change by developing a stronger network of elected officials that represents Black communities. This network is comprised of Black legislators, city elected officials, school board members, and local commissioners. From their Youth Engagement Program where they partner with Historically Black Colleges and Universities, to their work on criminal justice reform, they work to support communities of color.
GROW TO LIFE is a locally-based Black-led nonprofit organization that is doing amazing work in combating food insecurity. Founded by Makeda Ma’at, GROW TO LIFE provides food distributions for those in need in the Chapel Hill and surrounding areas. They operate a short-term food pantry for people in need of emergency food, as well as deliver food and supplies to families in need at other times. They also provide community garden spaces and classes that serve youth in learning how our food is created. In addition to hunger relief, they provide volunteer opportunities, educational workshops, and nutritional programs.
