Update: We no longer take plastic bags and wrap for recycling at some of our stores. Orange County accepts these materials at recycling drop-off centers.
You may have noticed the bin for recycling plastic bags in our store. (In the Carrboro store, it’s in the entryway by the carts; in Southern Village it’s on the side of the store (outside) at the entrance to the breezeway; and in Hillsborough it’s in the entryway, near the door that’s on the left.) These bins are not just for plastic grocery bags! You can recycle additional kinds of bags, including produce bags, dry cleaning wrap, bubble wrap, Ziplocks, and many more. Do NOT deposit biodegradable bags, pre-washed salad mix bags, or frozen food bags. The items you CAN recycle are shown on this webpage:
https://www.plasticfilmrecycling.org/recycling-bags-and-wraps/plastic-film-education-individuals/
The recycled bags go to manufacturers in the United States who use the plastic in products such as composite lumber, containers, and pallets.
