What is it about sliced cheese? When the person behind the deli counter hands you a packet of slices, it’s so hard not to open the bag and start peeling them off to eat right in the store. You know they don’t taste any different than the same cheese in block form, but they’re so much more fun to eat.
Now, thanks to direct buying from the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, three of our sliced cheeses are only $6.99/lb: Cabot’s provolone, muenster, and Swiss. We also have Cabot New York sharp cheddar for $7.99/lb. (And this week, the provolone is on sale for $4.99/lb!)
Sliced cheese is perfect when you’re grilling cheeseburgers or making a grilled cheese sandwich, but it saves time and tastes great (in that special sliced-cheese way) in other dishes as well:
- Use slices on a tortilla along with sliced meats, local tomato, and other fillings for a wrap or roll-up.
- Pop a slice onto your frying eggs in the morning, or use it to fill an omelet without the work of grating.
- Use cheese slices to reach all corners of your taco or burrito without the clumping common with shredded cheese.
- Sliced cheese makes it easy to spread the cheese evenly in your quesadilla.
- Top lasagna and casseroles easily with slices of cheese, and layer them within; the provolone is especially nice on lasagna!
