As part of our initiative to participate in direct co-op to co-op trade, we’ve partnered with the Cabot Creamery in Vermont to source high quality dairy products at reduced prices. Buying directly from Cabot, without middlemen, saves money for both the buyer and seller, enabling more profit to go to the producers while keeping more in your pocket as well.
Cabot is a co-op of 1200 family dairy farms in New York and New England; the company manages four plants where its farmers’ milk is turned into butter, cheese, sour cream, and more. The co-op has a tradition of attention to animal husbandry by its farm families and supports participation in the National Dairy FARM Program (Farmers Assuring Responsible Management), which provides guidelines for animal welfare and periodic farm inspections, including some by third party certifiers.
Cabot’s aged waxed bricks of cheddar (16-month and 24-month) are part of our Hope for the Holidays campaign. When you buy one (at $9.99 and $10.99), we’ll make a donation of $1 to our community fund for nonprofits. We have three other Cabot cheeses available, too: New York sharp cheddar, Vermont medium cheddar, and Monterrey Jack. Our Demo Team will be sampling all of these cheese in our stores this Saturday, December 19 (4-7 in Carrboro, 3-6 in Southern Village and Hillsborough).
Because we’re buying directly from Cabot, we’re able to reduce prices on the butters (salted and unsalted) to $3.99 for the holiday baking season, and offer 16 oz. Sour Cream at the every day low price of $1.99. Look for additional products from Cabot Cooperative as we continue to deepen our relationship with them!
