The Cooperative Community Fund (CCF) is a sustainable endowment fund for community donations. The endowment’s current value is $135,000; each year, the interest (about $3,000) is given as grants to local nonprofits for community projects that focus on “Access to Healthy Food.” A committee of co-op owners evaluates the grant applications and selects the recipients. This year the committee chose to fund two pilot studies: a nutritional education project presented by PORCH (PORCH Eats Fresh) and a series of field-trips to Maple View Farm presented by TABLE (TABLE On the Go).
PORCH Eats Fresh will educate families who participate in PORCH’s Food for Families program on healthy eating and will help develop their cooking skills. They will receive recipes that align with the foods in their weekly delivery. (Update: read about the project, now called PORCH Cooks, here.)
TABLE On the Go will enable the children served by TABLE’s programs to visit Maple View Farm and to participate in classes offered on the farm. The children will have a picnic lunch with a demonstration of the food preparation. They’ll go on a hayride and visit the farm animals. The kids will take two farm classes: “All about the Dairy” and “All about Autumn.” (Update: read about the trip here.)
