We’re been partnering with a Raleigh tech company called Freshspire to increase efficiency in food sourcing from local vendors. Carolyn, our produce and meat merchandiser, worked with our produce staff to implement the new procedures in our stores. “We had a challenge of managing orders and communicating logistics to our staff on a weekly basis,” she said. “Freshspire makes that process easier by streamlining our orders.”
About Freshspire
Freshspire is a woman- and minority-owned social enterprise based in Raleigh. NC native Shraddha Rathod founded the business with a goal of making high-quality food more accessible to our communities and reducing food waste. “It takes partnerships like this to make a difference in food systems,” says Rathod.
Freshspire is an online platform that helps stores and farmers manage orders and data. It provides a reliable network for grocery stores, distributors, and restaurants to source food from local and smaller vendors. On the store side, Freshspire replaces the manual ordering methods usually used with small producers (spreadsheets, email, calls, and texts), which increases efficiency. It also gives stores access to other nearby products and vendors and provides information like ordering activity and price comparisons.
On the producer side, local producers benefit from order management and the visibility that the platform provides. Red’s Quality Acre in Durham has been sending us fresh produce for years. Farmer Dave Henderson says, “With my first season using Freshspire I have been very impressed with how our sales are so much more streamlined and efficient. I have found myself spending less time back and forth with sales and more time with important tasks on the farm.”
