Here is a letter of gratitude from Makeda Ma’at, executive director of Grow to Life–our June round up recipient at the Carrboro and Southern Village stores.
This is Ms. Makeda Ma’at, Executive Director and Founder of Grow to Life, and I want to pass on our heartfelt thanks for your support during Weaver Street Market’s June round-up. With your aid, our Black-led organization raised more than $15,000 to support our programs like, complimentary, healthy, and nutritious food distributions throughout Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Orange County and gathered the resources necessary to keep dozens of community members connected to their neighbors through service.
Our mission is to Grow, Give, and Educate within our community, with a vision to have the commUnity serving the commUnity. Our food distribution program allows any neighbor to access the nutrition they need free of judgment while teaching dozens of youth the value of healthy agricultural practices and community engagement. Many of our volunteers come from local student communities, and one of the most gratifying aspects of our work is ensuring that a community-driven approach to health and wellness endures for generations. Without your support we would not be able to provide our neighbors with healthy food and connections that sustain the community, and I want to reiterate our heartfelt gratitude for your support.
Give thanks to our partners Sankofa Farms, Seal the Seasons, Bee Blessed Honey, the Town of Chapel Hill Parks & Rec, Weaver Street, North Carolina Botanical Gardens, Friends of Chapel Hill Parks & Rec, UNC Carolina Center for Public Service, NCCU, Home Depot, NC Cooperative Extension, Sphinx Entertainment, and all those who help us to keep our neighbors healthy.
If you are interested in contributing to support Grow to Life in our mission to make sure none of our neighbors go without healthy food and to support programming efforts, you can read our mission at growtolife.org and contribute at paypal.me/growtolifeorg. Join us for Healthy Alternative Preparation & Nutrition Education Series 2022, a food and nutrition educational program, which continues throughout the fall starting August 19 with our current partners Vegan Flava & Vimala’s Curryblossom Cafe. Additionally, we will be exploring opportunities to expand our garden space, and continue our vital distribution program as these hard times add stress and uncertainty throughout our community.
For class registration or volunteer opportunities please contact Grow to Life at (919) 525-1564. Space is limited.
Give thanks again, and we look forward to seeing you throughout the fall and beyond.
