May is the one of the best months for local produce: the spring greens are still coming in strong before the heat of the summer takes hold, while some of our summer favorites like cucumbers, squash, and blueberries start to trickle in. Look for produce from these farms on our shelves:
Megan and Keith Marshall have been providing us with certified organic produce for the past several years now, and this year started providing our Carrboro store with spring lettuce. Look for more greens from them, plus cucumbers, summer squash, and more as the season progresses. Read more.
Dave Henderson and Caitlin Law raise radishes, turnips, greens, tomatoes, and more for our stores, and are now Certified Naturally Grown. Read more. Read more about the certification here.
We are excited to be receiving some organically grown broccoli from Down 2 Earth Farm this week! Read more.
Brett Evans of Red Hawk Farm is hoping to fill an important niche for us at Weaver Street Market—growing high-quality salad mixes year round. Producer profile coming soon!
Stuart and Alice White are growing beautiful cut flower bouquets for our Carrboro store starting this spring and hopefully for years to come. We also have their bunched beets in our Hillsborough store, and will be carrying their mixed cherry tomatoes later in the season. Read more.
We’ve purchased diverse organic produce from the Vollmers over the last decade. Right now we have their hothouse tomatoes, which arrive earlier than most because they’re grown indoors. We expect to have Vollmer blueberries late in the season. Read more.
