HomeStart is a residential facility for homeless women and their children, run by the Interfaith Council for Social Service (IFC). HomeStart’s mission is to provide “a safe, structured home for homeless women and children, helping them to access community resources and offering everyone on-going support to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.”
Domestic violence, eviction, unemployment, and low-paying jobs are just some of the reasons HomeStart residents find themselves homeless. At HomeStart, residents receive meals, job coaching, health care, and more, with a goal of earning their own income and finding affordable childcare and housing. In fiscal year 2014-2015, HomeStart provided 14,685 nights of shelter to women and children and served 8529 nutritious meals. Read more on the IFC website.
HomeStart is fund-raising with special Mothers’ day cards. Each card costs $10 and includes information about the program and artwork made by the children. They are available in our stores.
