In the recent edition of its Waste Matters newsletter, Orange County Solid Waste shared these websites to help recycling (and reuse and reduce) advocates opt out of receiving junk mail:
dmachoice.org This website allows users to opt out of several types of junk mail. It also has a link to a credit card mailing site. You must create an account to use the site. Note that the website is written from a pro-mail point of view; you can also use it to opt in! However, it is not difficult to use for opting out.
catalogchoice.org This website will unsubscribe your address from catalogs, but you must create an account and then enter each catalog into the site one by one. This could be useful if you have a pile of catalogs to unsubscribe from, or if a catalog keeps ignoring your requests to unsubscribe.
optoutprescreen.com This website will remove you from credit card offer mailings. You can opt out for five years online, or opt out forever by printing and mailing in a form.
