At a recent open house, we heard a presentation about Seal the Seasons by CEO Patrick Mateer. Seal the Seasons buys fruit and produce from North Carolina farmers and freezes it for a year-round supply. They operate at the Piedmont Food and Ag Processing Center (PFAP) in Hillsborough. They donate 20 percent of profits to fight food insecurity.
We walked past the production rooms, where staff were cleaning strawberries and freezing them using a liquid nitrogen system. The berries will be divided into small bags for supermarket shelves.
