Starting today, WSM shoppers can donate bags of fresh produce and eggs to PORCH, a local hunger relief organization. The food campaign is part of WSM’s Community Food Partnerships. The goal of the program is to offer ways to participate that are meaningful for shoppers who value fresh healthy food. For the PORCH campaign, shoppers can donate bags of fresh produce for $30.
FOR TWO WEEKS ONLY:
Wednesday, February 18 – Tuesday, March 3
For two weeks—Wednesday, February 18 through Tuesday, March 3—shoppers can donate bags of natural and organic produce and eggs for our community food partner PORCH. Once a month, PORCH delivers bags of pantry items and fresh food to food insecure families in our community. Our campaign focuses on where we can make the most impact—providing fresh produce and eggs.
We are offering options that allow shoppers to donate at a level friendly to their budgets and aligned with PORCH’s food programs. WSM will buy the produce, making up the difference in price.
- a $30 donation buys a whole bag of produce worth $60
- a $15 donation buys a half bag of produce worth $30
- a $7.50 donation buys a quarter bag of produce worth $15
Shoppers will also have the option of donating cash in collection boxes at each register. When the campaign is over, Volunteers will help sort, bag, and deliver the bags of produce.
Our Goal Is to Donate 1,000 Bags of Fresh Produce!
Carrboro: 500 bags Hillsborough: 300 bags
Southern Village: 200 bags
Watch for the growing display of donated bags hanging in the store windows. We’ll be tracking the number of bags sold in each store on our Healthy Carrot goal sticks.
