Whether you prefer plant-based sausage or a meatier option, we have a sausage for you. We’ll have samples in stores this weekend (times below).
You may have seen Beyond Meat in the news recently. The relatively new company believes “the best way to get people to eat less meat is by giving them what they love–in this case, a juicy delicious sausage–without so many of the health, sustainability, and animal welfare downside of a traditional animal-based sausage.” Their 100% plant-based products are GMO, soy, and gluten free, and contain pea, fava, and rice proteins. They come in original brat and hot Italian flavors. And they sizzle like meat-based sausage! Read more: https://www.beyondmeat.com/about/
- No Evil Foods The Stallion: an Italian veggie sausage made in Asheville from beans, wheat berries, yeast, and organic herbs and spices.
- Tofurky sweet Italian sausage
- Gimme Lean veggie protein, ground sausage style: soy-based, great for slicing into sausage patties or molding into “meatballs” for pasta
- Field Roast sausages: grain-based, in Italian, Mexican chipotle, and apple sage flavors
We carry a variety of local sausages brought to us by Firsthand Foods, a food aggregator based in Durham. Firsthand sources meat from a network of farmers who raise their animals humanely, on pasture, without using sub-therapeutic antibiotics, added hormones, or animal by-products. Firsthand connects these sustainable meat producers with the markets, like Weaver Street, who want to sell their goods. They take care of the steps needed to get a consistent selection of quality meat. Learn more: https://firsthandfoods.com/
Firsthand buys pork, beef, and lamb from about fifty North Carolina farmers. We have both pork sausages in a variety of flavors and Merguez lamb sausages. Sausage cooking tips are available on Firsthand’s website, and you can follow the links to sausage recipes: https://firsthandfoods.com/2018/07/02/sausage-cooking-tips/
