This past month, PORCH Hillsborough’s new Food for Families program had its first delivery. Twenty-five families picked up boxes of fresh produce donated through the Round Up! campaign. Lizzie Dicker, the Food for Families Program Coordinator of PORCH Hillsborough, sent us this letter about the day.
I just wanted to let you know that the first drop off of the boxes went really well! Errol arrived promptly at 9:25 and we had social workers and PORCH volunteers on-site to take the boxes off the pallets quickly. We had a total of 10 families pick up on Wednesday morning. The social workers had arranged for the rest of the boxes to be picked up at another location.

I made kale mac and cheese to give out as samples to the families so they could see how to use the kale in their box. Providing samples was a total hit and I am already plotting what to make next month (probably green beans with garlic).

I just have to say the social workers were positively giddy to be able to provide these boxes of fresh produce to their families!! I could tell from their interactions with the families that this was very meaningful to all involved. My heart was happy.
I really want to thank you for providing this opportunity. It is making some families very happy and changing their access to fresh foods. You are really making an impact on a very local level. Thank you so much!!
