Thanks to everyone who donated to our recent Apples for Families campaign. Together, we raised $18,600 for our local food banks. That’s 24,820 pounds of apples!
Orange Congregations in Mission (OCIM) in Hillsborough and Interfaith Council (IFC) in Carrboro-Chapel Hill welcome donations of fresh produce. That’s why we decided to collect money for apples, which we’ll buy with our buying power as a grocery co-op. The apples will be donated over the next several months, not all at once.
Both OCIM and IFC receive referrals from local social service organizations and rely on donations from businesses, community groups, individuals, schools, and churches. The organizations have limited staff support and rely on volunteers to receive, sort, and stock donated food. For more information on donating or volunteering, visit them online at http://ocimnc.org/ and http://www.ifcweb.org/.
