From February through April, shoppers rounded up to support local hunger relief groups PORCH-Chapel Hill-Carrboro and PORCH-Hillsborough. Over 170,500 times shoppers chose to round up their purchase totals, yielding a phenomenal $76,758 for PORCH’s Food for Families programs!
Currently, 175 families with PORCH-Chapel Hill-Carrboro and 25 with PORCH-Hillsborough receive boxes of fresh produce once a month via the Round Up! donations. We use the donations to buy the produce at cost. Then a team of volunteers gathers at our Food House on a Tuesday afternoon to sort the produce into boxes. Many of the families who receive the food are refugees from Burma who are referred to the program by school social workers. The parents often work at low-paying jobs due to their language barrier. PORCH began serving this community after learning that they avoided the typical nonperishable foods available at food pantries, as they were used to eating fresh fruits and vegetables.
Access to healthy, fresh food is important to everyone in our community. Thanks for rounding up to support Food for Families.
Our current Round Up! campaign benefits TABLE and the Orange County Schools.
