Thanks to the 40+ volunteers who came out Thursday morning to help us sort and deliver food to TABLE! We sorted food for 350 of the 460 backpacks TABLE will deliver this week—all made possible with your Round Up! donations.
TABLE delivers food weekly to children in need. For the past three years, donations from our shoppers have funded TABLE’s Summer Backpack program. The number of children served has increased from 200 to 460 and is expected to keep increasing. Thankfully, our shoppers have embraced the Round Up! campaign; each day, we receive donations of over $1000. We use the money to buy food at wholesale prices—things like pasta and sauce, instant oatmeal, blueberries, and sliced oat bread, baked fresh by our bread bakers. Volunteers meet weekly at TABLE to sort the food into backpacks, which they then deliver to the children at home or at their summer programs.
This week, we gave the TABLE staff a break and sorted the food on our patio in Carrboro. Then we wheeled the bags over to TABLE’s office on East Main Street. Below is a photo gallery.
If you missed it, you can participate by helping TABLE with their weekly sorting and/or delivery. Learn more at their website. And thanks for rounding up!
